If you are living life in overdrive around Chicagoland, you are covering a lot of miles. The music scene in Chicago is unbeatable, but it is all over town. The White Sox are south, Soldier Field is in the middle of everything, and driving to Wrigley is an adventure all its own. You need a car to move at the speed you would like, as well as the car insurance to go with it.

Illinois Car Insurance Requirements
Illinois requires minimum coverage of $20,000 in bodily injury liability for an individual, and $40,000 in bodily injury coverage for a single accident (covering all parties in the other car). Also required is property damage coverage of at least $15,000 (also for the other car, if you are at fault). Illinois also requires insurance against uninsured motorists at a minimum of $20,000 in bodily injury for an individual and $40,000 for the entire incident. Coverage for underinsured drivers is also required under certain circumstances.
The Illinois Department of Insurance cautions against buying car insurance from an operator that is not licensed to do business in the state, because they are not required to meet state requirements, and are not eligible for the Guaranty Fund that protects insured parties should the company go bankrupt.

Additional Insurance Coverage In Illinois
Keep in mind that the minimum state requirements for insurance coverage may not be adequate enough to cover today’s rising medical costs. You should purchase the highest limits of coverage you can comfortably afford, as this can help protect you financially.
To round out your insurance policy, you may want to consider collision and comprehensive coverage. Collision will help cover damages to your car incurred in an accident where you were at fault. Comprehensive covers damages to your car that are not accident-related, such as fire or flood damage, vandalism, or theft. If you take out a loan to purchase your car, your lender may require you to purchase either or both of these coverages to protect your investment (your car loan), as well as theirs (your car loan).
