What is passenger medical?

Passenger medical insurance offers coverage to drivers and their passengers involved in an accident for which they were not at fault, and who require medical care for injuries. This coverage can be purchased alone or as an add-on to another policy. Typical coverage amounts vary depending on your insurance company, but are either $50,000 or $100,000.
 
Passenger medical insurance is not as familiar a coverage as other insurance coverages, such as comprehensive coverage or no-fault insurance. Similar car insurance policy options include medical payments coverage, no-fault insurance, and personal injury protection (PIP) coverage. Do you need passenger medical?
